If you're looking for a place to view cherry blossoms in Miyagi, this is it.
Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) is a classic spring tradition in Japan. The Hitome Senbonzakura, literally view of a thousand cherry trees, is a famous sakura spot in Miyagi where 1,000 cherry trees blossom alongside the Shiroishi River. Many food stalls make there way there as well, making it a perfect area to take a stroll in the spring. There are also many spots on the riverbank popular for picnics. There are boat rides on the river which passes by the trees, and a nightly illumination by Funaoka Castle Ruins Park.
The event is open through the festival period, but note that the exact dates the cherry blossoms bloom vary each year, usually around mid-April. Check the official Facebook page for frequent updates. Be sure not to miss this breathtaking sight with your family and friends!
