In the southern Zao highlands, at the foot of Mount Fubo in Shichikashuku, lies the mesmerizing Lake Choro. Like the Yamabiko Bridge a short hike away, Lake Choro is also counted among the Thirty-six Scenic Views of Mount Zao. The spectacular reflection of forested Mount Fubo in the mirror-like waters of the lake makes this one of the best spots in the region to view the changing colors of the leaves in autumn. Tucked away in a lesser-visited part of Miyagi, visitors here can have the lake practically to themselves. Rent a rowboat and paddle out across the lake for gorgeous views from every angle.
