Near Shiroishi Castle, there is a quiet neighborhood of old thatched-roof houses. These residences were once home to middle-ranking samurai during the Edo period. Go for a stroll and take in the beauty of the historical landscape, charming year round.
The neighborhood is a living residential district. Families continue to inhabit these former warrior residences even today, so most are closed off to the public. One residence, however, welcomes sightseers: the Koseki Residence. Visitors here can get a feel for the lifestyle of middle-class samurai by exploring the interior of the Koseki Residence and relaxing in its garden.
