  • The Michinoku Coastal Trail is a 900+ kilometer long trekking route running from Fukushima to Aomori Prefecture, traversing the coast of Miyagi along the way. There are campgrounds, inns, and public transportation access points conveniently located near the trail at intervals.

The trail is also broken up into shorter sections manageable as day hikes, each with their own unique characteristics. English maps for each section are available for download. One of the most convenient day hikes is the Onagawa Section, accessible from Onagawa Station. The Northern Kesennuma Section is another charming day hike to try. It follows the scenic rocky coastline, passing by such sights as the imposing Ogama Hanzo monolith and Dairiseki Coast, a natural shoreline composed of marble.
