Miyagi is famous for its local cuisine, but most people don't know where to go to get a taste of these delicious dishes. If you're one of those people, Local Cuisine Miyagino is the place for you!
Local Cuisine Miyagino is a long-established restaurant located in the underground food court of the S-PAL department store (next to Sendai station). As a restaurant under the banner of “local cuisine,” Miyagino offers a wide variety of local specialties, including the “Three Best-known Specialties of Sendai” such as beef tongue, zunda and sasakamaboko (bamboo-leaf-shaped fishcake), as well as local and seasonal specialties from all over the prefecture. Whether it's hokke fish in spring, sea pineapple in summer, salmon in autumn or oysters in winter, Shiroishi umen noodles, Sendai zoni soup, seri nabe hot pot or harako meshi rice bowl (a kind of salmon oyakodon made with salmon stock), you can enjoy them all in Miyagino.
Many people may have the impression that the food courts in department stores are expensive, but Miyagino is the opposite. A superbly tender, melt-in-your-mouth kuroge wagyu beef rice bowl meal is available for 2,000 yen, and a luxurious boat of fresh sashimi (for two) just for 1,280 yen!
If Miyagi is the “kingdom of ingredients” blessed with nature’s bounty, then maybe we should called Miyagino a gourmet treasure trove where the ingredients are brought together and prepared into a the most popular dishes in the region, allowing you to enjoy the local cuisine hidden in the prefecture without the hassle of traveling.
