  • Wasian Café Aimaki is a cozy, contemporary-styled restaurant in Minamisanriku that serves Thai-inspired meals with a local twist. Daigo Takahashi, the personable owner and head chef, is originally from Minamisanriku but spent time in his youth travelling the world, and honing his culinary skills in Thailand. He also speaks English quite well, so guests who are interested in learning more about the restaurant or making a special request can contact him by messaging the restaurant on Facebook.

The restaurant overlooks a beautiful valley which is lush and green in the summertime and white with snow in the winter. In the warmer seasons, guests are encouraged to sit back and relax in one of the cushy patio chairs out on the balcony. While you’re waiting for your meal to be prepared, or after you’ve finished, relax with a cup of Aimaki’s signature coffee or a fresh fruit drink and enjoy the view, far away from crowded city streets.

The cafe's menu includes Thai favorites like green curry, massaman curry, and tom yam kung. Guests interested in savoring a blend of local and faraway flavors can order from the specials-of-the-day menu, which offers dishes prepared with seasonal local specialties like Sanriku oysters. In addition to the standard à la carte menu, Aimaki is also able to accommodate guests interested in enjoying a multi-course meal (reservations required).

Takahashi is also happy to prepare halal meals for Muslim guests! If you’re interested in having a halal meal, it’s recommended to make a reservation at least a week in advance so the chef can source the necessary halal ingredients.
