  • On a forested cape between Minamisanriku Town and Ishinomaki City lies Cape Kamiwarizaki. Its name comes from a legend in which villagers from the two towns were fighting over the bounty of a beached whale. This angered the gods, who cleaved the whale—along with the cape—in two. The cape remains split as two cliffs, allowing waves to surge and crash spectacularly between them. In late October and mid-February the sun rises mystically up the center of the chasm.

Near the cape is Kamiwarizaki Camp Field, a campground with a beautiful view offering log cabins, tent sites, and meals.
