  • Held every August at Sairi Yashiki for one night only, this festival will take you back in time to the bustling Taisho period. The Sairi Lantern Illumination is a one-night-only event held in summer in the area surrounding the Sairi Yashiki old warehouse buildings. Every year, over 1,000 lanterns tastefully decorated with colorful hand-drawn paintings line the streets and buildings around this neighborhood, giving you the rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the romantic atmosphere of Taisho period.

In addition to the lantern displays, this festival also features yosakoi dance, taiko drumming and rakugo (traditional comical storytelling) performances, not to mention the chance to experience getting your hair done in Taisho style. Rental yukata kimono are also available.
