  • Chikusenso is a study in formal Japanese elegance. It is modern and spacious, yet pays homage to traditional Japanese design. The focal point of the interior is the enormous temple bell hanging over the lobby fireplace. Weighing five hundred kilograms,it is an identical replica of the bell of Matsushima's renowned Zuiganji Temple. Smaller, subtle flourishes invite guests to revel in the sumptuous detail of their surroundings: armchairs upholstered in Kyoto nishijin-ori fabric, wall hangings of Shiroishi washi gilded with Kanazawa gold leaf. The guest rooms as well are astoundingly spacious and elegant—some even include private hot spring baths, decks, or rock gardens.
