Fukase is a modest confectionery shop that has been a fixture of Naruko Onsen for a generation. Their signature kuridango are the most sought-after wagashi (traditional Japanese confection) in the Naruko area. The kuridango are chewy rice cakes stuffed with chestnuts and coated in an amber-tinted mitarashi (sweetened soy sauce) gel. They are made fresh every morning, available to eat in or take out. The shop sells out nearly every day—stop in by early afternoon to ensure availability.
