  • Step into this friendly izakaya for some warm food and company. Founded after the 2011 tsunami, it sources its seafood direct from the Miyagi coast, particularly the Kesennuma area. The four-star rating on the green lantern outside means that this restaurant serves mostly local ingredients. The signature Michikusa set is affordable and prepared quickly, making it an option well suited to barhopping. The set includes a small carafe of sake, two appetizers, and two items from the oden (one-pot). The light, savory oden broth is made with care. Additional portions of oden can be ordered à la carte. Nanbu Iroha also serves a selection of chilled noodles and hard-to-find sake from neighboring Iwate Prefecture, the owner’s home prefecture.

In addition to the counter seating, numerous small tables make it a good place for small groups.
